Cheap Trick headlined a show at Smart Financial Centre in Sugar Land, Tx on April 17th, 2025 without any opening acts!

Cheap Trick is an American rock band originating from Rockford, Illinois and was formed in 1973. Their current lineup consists of lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist Robin Zander, lead guitarist/backing vocalist Rick Nielsen, guitarist/backing vocalist Robin Taylor Zander, bassist/backing vocalist Tom Petersson, and drummer/backing vocalist Daxx Nielsen.

Opening with “Hello There“, “Heart On the Line“, and “Stiff Competition“, they balanced classic tracks with some of their newer material. The rock legends kept the same pace working through some of their deeper cuts such as “He’s a Whore” & “Cry, Cry” from their 1977 original self titled release. They also performed some of their greatest hits “I Know What I Want“ & “The Flame“!

The classic rock icons closed out this nostalgic set with their iconic track “I Want You to Want Me”, where Rick Nielsen showered their adoring fans in guitar picks while they sang along to every word!

After that eventful performance, police sirens droned across the arena as they encored with “Dream Police“. This was followed up by arguably their most popular song, “Surrender“. This iconic track has been a staple for their career. “Auf Wiedersehen“, another song from their 1978 release “Heaven Tonight“, was played next. This actually came as a pleasant surprise! To conclude this memorable evening it was only fitting that Cheap Trick sang “Goodnight” to the greater Houston Area.

“Thank you very much! We’re Cheap Trick, goodnight!”

Cheap Trick is still going strong after all these years, holding most of it’s core founding members! Rick Nielsen’s unique guitar playing & his signature multi-necked guitar were truly something to marvel at! Tom Petersson supplied the low-end thunder throughout the night. He’s also responsible for helping write and record some of their most recognizable songs. Robin Zander’s vocals and ability to sing at a high level was also very impressive. His young son, Robin Taylor Zander, helped him power through as he accomplished him with backing vocals. And you can’t forget the heartbeat of the band, Daxx Nielsen!
