Cantrell opened up his set with “Psychotic Break”, the first track off his solo album “Degradation Trip”. This being one of his most popular solo tracks.
They wasted no time in playing Alice in Chains songs. “Them Bones” was the second song performed. Following was “Atone”, the first of three songs off of his recent release “Brighten”.
Next song “Vilified”, is the lead single from his forthcoming album “I Want Blood” being released on October 18th.
Cantrell stated about “I Want Blood”:
“This record is a serious piece of work. It’s a motherfucker. It’s hard, no doubt, and completely unlike ‘Brighten’. And that’s what you want, to end up in a different place. There’s a confidence to this album. I think it’s some of my best songwriting and playing, and certainly some of my best singing.”
Cantrell added:
“’Vilified’ travels a lot of places in just four and a half minutes. It’s got a ferocity and really aggressive vibe to it.”
A few songs later was “Man In the Box”, arguably Alice In Chains’ most popular song. Followed by a live debut of “Afterglow”, which would be publicly released the next day.
Cantrell speaking before “Afterglow”:
“We’re going to drop a new song tomorrow. It’s called ‘Afterglow‘. We thought we would play it here for the first time. So bear with us. This is the first time ever playing this song. It goes something like this”
Cantrell played “Cut You In” off his debut solo album “Boggy Depot” from back in 1998. This track being his most streamed. Hailing over 17.4 million streams on Spotify.
Cantrell sharing his gratitude:
“This has been a really fun tour. I really like playing with this band up here. Please make some noise for them as well.”
*band introductions*
“I’m Jerry Cantrell, thank you so much for being here the rest of the day.”
The last three songs of his set were none other than the title track of his previous solo album “Brighten”, and two more Alice In Chains classics “Would?” & “Rooster”. The crowd went absolutely wild during the intro of the all time favorite. There was no better way to conclude this nostalgic set!
Cantrell speaking before “Rooster”:
“I wrote this song because I’m an Army brat. It’s not just the soldiers, it’s the families of those who serve. So if you could for me, please take out your phone. Light up your phone for anybody that you know that serves or is a family member. Let’s light this place up like a universe. This is for all of you.”
