This is not only their final tour, but this was their final stop in Texas!
KISS is an American legendary rock band originating from New York City, New York and was formed in 1973. Their current lineup consists of lead and backing vocalist/rhythm and lead guitarist Paul Stanley, lead and backing vocalist/bassist Gene Simmons, lead guitarist/backing and lead vocalist Tommy Thayer, and drummer/backing and lead vocalist Eric Singer.
The Rock N’ Roll icons known for their face paint and stage outfits quickly rose to fame in the 1970’s with their shock rock live performances. They included fire breathing, blood spitting, smoking guitars, shooting rockets, levitating drum kits, and pyrotechnics! The band has gone through some lineup changes, with Stanley and Simmons remaining their consistent original members.
KISS is regarded as one of the most influential rock bands of all time. They are also one of the best selling bands of all time, claiming to have sold more than 75 million records worldwide! Kiss has also earned 30 Gold albums, the most of any band from the United States. Kiss has 14 platinum albums, three of which earned multi-platinum. On April 10, 1994, the four original members of KISS were inducted into the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame!
Gene Simmons stated:
You can’t help but have a good time at one of our shows when everybody is going nuts on stage. That kind of good time is infectious. You can’t fake it. You can’t fool the audience. The people will see right through you if you put on a fake smile or you’re not putting out your best. The band are alive and well and playing better than we ever have.”
Paul Stanley stated:
“There were many many nights when I was looking around the stage and going ‘This is magic’ . This is beyond anybody’s wildest fantasies. What was important about these shows is we had a much bigger task than people understood. Our biggest competition was our history. We didn’t have to be as good as we used to be. We had to be as good as people thought we were. The show wasn’t to be a replica of what we’ve done, it was to be what people imagined we had done. We had to be totally committed. and also totally sure that we could not only live up the legend but also surpass it.”
Paul Stanley said:
“Whether this is your first (KISS) show or your 101st (KISS) show, you’re a part of the KISS Army and we wouldn’t be here without you. We appreciate you!”
Paul Stanley rallies the KISS Army before flying across the crowd:
“This is our last time being with ya’, but I’ll tell ya’ every time we’ve been here it’s been an honor to be up here on stage. One last time I want to be with you! I can do it too! Let me tell you something, I’ve spent enough time here in Texas to know all about hospitality. So if y’all want me to come visit you have to invite me! Let’s have a little controlled chaos. On the count of three you have to say my name as loud as you can, that’s how I’ll know. One, two, three! (crowd screams) Like I said before if this wasn’t Austin I would say Awesome, but this is Austin so you’ll have to try a little harder. Shall we try it again? One, two, three! (crowd screams louder) Now we’re getting somewhere. If I were a betting man I would say the third times the charm. So take a deep breath. Catch your breath. Long night, a lot of music, a lot of getting crazy. (Takes deep breath) We’re going to try it again. One, two, three! (crowd explodes with excitement) You know what? I’m coming out there to see ya’!”
Paul Stanley exclaimed:
“Austin, we didn’t want to say goodbye without coming and saying goodbye. What can we say except see ya’!”
God Gave Rock ‘N’ Roll To You:
“I know life sometimes can get tough and I know life sometimes can be a drag. But people, we have been given a gift, we have been given a road. And that road’s name is rock and roll!”
