Koe Wetzel Kicks Off the First Night of His Damn Near Normal Tour in the Woodlands!

Koe Wetzel headlined at the Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion on July 27th, 2024 with support from Pecos and the Rooftops, and Kolton Moore & the Clever Few on the first night of his Damn Near Normal Tour!

Ropyr Madison Koe Wetzel is an American singer/songwriter that was born on July 14, 1992. His unique style blends classic country, southern rock, and grunge elements.

The Texas born singer-songwriter brought a massive sold out crowd together to serenade with his rebellious country style rock ‘n roll. The crowd was electric as Koe took the stage, ready to experience an unforgettable evening.

He kicked off his set with “Twister“, a fast paced single from his newest album “9 Lives“. Following was “Fuss & Fight“, another fast paced track from one of his earlier releases “Noise Complaint“. This was a great way to start off the show as it had everyone up on their feet! Also, this was a good indication that we were going to experience both new hits and older ones.

The third song was “Sundy or Mundy“, which the last time I caught his set was the case too. No complaints here, as it’s a good part of the set. If it’s not broke then don’t fix it.

Two songs later was none other than the title track of his latest album “9 Lives“. Despite this album being released this month on July 19, 2024, the crowd sang along to every word like they had been rehearsing it for years! The next song “Forever“, that was certainly the case. The fans had ample time to learn the words to this contagious track, since it was released back in 2019.

Koe expressing his love and gratitude for live music:

“It brings us all together. I think it brought us all here tonight. I’m very excited. I’m very happy to be a part of that and to be here with all of you beautiful people. Thank you guys for coming out and listening to fucking live music. It really means a lot to us!”

“Money Spent” was the first slow song of the evening. It was one of two slower songs played off of “Hell Paso“. The other being “YellaBush Road“, which was an unexpected treat. After playing “Austin“, he played “Sweet Dreams” one of the slow melodic songs off the new album. Unfortunately, he didn’t play “Depression and Obsession“. Maybe next time.

Koe dedicating his song “Drunk Driving”:

“If you’re going through some shit right now. If you’re going through a break up or you’re going through something hard in your life, this is your moment. Y’all do what y’all need to. This part of the show is for y’all.”

The next song “Drunk Driving“, is the start of the highlights of the evening. This powerful ballad has been played in bars around the country. It definitely resonates through the souls of the broken. So much emotion packed into the lyrics.

As I said, that was only the start of the highlights. Next song “February 28, 2016” is normally the closing song, but not for this tour. This anthemic song had everyone screaming “Who is sober enough to take me to Taco Bell?”!

The tour wasn’t called the “Damn Near Normal” tour for no reason. This was the next song played as he explained how he doesn’t have the ordinary family life and work the normal 9-5 job schedule.

“Creeps” was performed immediately following. This song was a massive radio hit on both rock and country stations. I would say this was easily the biggest hit off of “Hell Paso“.

Koe giving his closing speech for the first night of the tour:

“Thank y’all once again for coming out here and selling this motherfucker out to kick off the Damn Near World Tour! Ain’t nothing like being in Texas and to have all y’all come out here and support us means a whole lot. We’re just a bunch of fucking drunks that like playing music and without y’all this shit wouldn’t be possible! So thank you guys so fucking much! Let’s burn this motherfucker to the ground!”

To conclude the evening he gave the Woodlands “Something to Talk About”. This setlist seemed as if it were a making of his greatest hits. Koe had lived up to his reputation once again of being one of today’s most exciting performers. Not only with his stage presence, but also with his stage props. This time he not only brought out blazing pyrotechnics, but he implemented mesmerizing lasers into his stage setup. If you ever have the chance to catch one of his shows, make sure you don’t miss out. Country music fan or not, you won’t regret it!
