Pentagram headlined at Last Concert Cafe in Houston, Tx on May 12th, 2025 with support from Leather Church & WARLUNG on their tour!

Pentagram is an American doom metal band originating from Alexandria, Virginia and was formed in 1971. Their current lineup consists of lead vocalist Bobby Liebling, guitarist Tony Reed, bassist Scooter Haslip, and drummer Henry Vasquez. Pentagram is often referred to as the American version of Black Sabbath, survived only by it’s continuous member Bobby Liebling.

Despite the band’s long history they still are as vital as ever. Although seventy one years of age, Liebling’s voice has aged like fine wine. With his vocals combined with their heavily distorted guitar riffs they have truly developed a distinctive ominous sound.

Pentagram recently being in the spotlight after a photo surfaced online of Liebling gazing off into the abyss. The band acknowledged the meme and showcased the photo for their tour poster.

The tour started in Texas and came to Last Concert Cafe in Houston on it’s second stop. Established in 1949, Last Concert Cafe was the first woman-owned cafe in post World War II Houston. A venue with such a longstanding history was a perfect fit for a legendary band of their stature.

The doom metal icons began their highly anticipated set with “Live Again“, one of six songs to be performed from their recently released album “Lightning In A Bottle“. The title derived from the idiom referring to achieving remarkable or extraordinarily rare success. I couldn’t think of a title more fitting and relevant than that. These six new tracks comprised half of their set while the other half stemmed from the rest of their illustrious career.

They performed hits such as “The Ghoul” & “Sign of the Wolf (Pentagram),” both of which are from their 1985 self released debut album “Relentless“. It was later reissued by Peaceville Records in 1993 with a reordered track listing.

Pentagram concluded their regular set with the final song off their latest release, “Walk the Sociopath“. After hearing chants of their name, they returned back to the stage with an encore performance of deeper cuts “Forever My Queen” and “20 Buck Spin“.

This performance was a pleasant way to enjoy your Monday evening. There was no place I would have rather been. I’m hoping to catch them perform again live in the foreseeable future.
