Puscifer Reflects this Time We’re Living In on the Normal Isn’t Tour!

Puscifer headlined a show at Bass Concert Hall in Austin, Tx on April 24th, 2026 with support from Dave Hill on The Normal Isn’t Tour!

As Puscifer does on each album, they’ve reinvented themselves once again – leaning heavily into post-punk/goth atmospherics, introducing a trio of new characters to the Pusciverse, and launching their own comic book line as well.

There’s a certain expectation when you walk into a Puscifer show. It’s something theatrical, strange, and just self-aware enough to keep you guessing. On The Normal Isn’t Tour, that expectation isn’t just met, it’s completely dismantled and rebuilt into something darker, sharper, and more sonically aggressive than anything the band has delivered before.

From the moment the lights drop, the atmosphere leans heavily into the band’s new era. Supporting their 2026 album Normal Isn’t, the performance trades some of Puscifer’s past tongue-in-cheek absurdity for a colder, goth-punk edge.

Unlike a typical setlist built around hits, this tour leans heavily on their new material. “Thrust,” “Normal Isn’t,” “Bad Wolf,” and “Self Evident” are played in sequence creating a front-loaded experience that feels more like a live concept piece than a traditional concert. There’s still some hits thrown in there, of course.

The sequencing works in the band’s favor. Songs bleed into each other with minimal downtime, emphasizing the album’s cohesive, almost cinematic flow. The crowd wasn’t just watching a show, they’re being pulled through a narrative.

Sonically, this is Puscifer at their most aggressive in years. The Normal Isn’t material leans into a fusion of goth, post-punk, and heavier guitar-driven textures, a direction frontman Maynard James Keenan has described as returning to his roots.

Keenan stated:

“We”re definitely leaning into our early influences. It’s a place where goth meets punk. It’s where I came from.”

Live, that translates into a thicker, more immediate sound. The electronics still pulse beneath the surface, but they’re no longer the centerpiece, they’re support beams for something louder and more urgent. Replaced by driving guitars and a post-punk edge that feels more raw and immediate.

And then there’s Carina Round.

Her presence cuts through the noise like a warning siren. Equal parts elegance and unease. The chemistry between her and Keenan doesn’t just elevate the set, it anchors it. Where he leans detached, she brings urgency. Where things feel controlled, she cracks them open.

Carina Round’s presence adds an emotional counterweight, her vocals cutting through the industrial haze with clarity and tension. The push-and-pull between her and Keenan remains one of the band’s strongest live elements.

Visually, the show continues Puscifer’s tradition of blending performance art with live music. Multi-level staging, screens, and stark lighting create a controlled, almost dystopian environment. The aesthetic mirrors the album’s themes. Detached, surreal, and slightly unsettling.

There’s still humor tucked into the performance, but it’s more subdued this time around. Instead of dominating the show, it surfaces in brief moments, making the darker tone feel even more deliberate.

Standout moment “Impetuous,” a slow-burn that simmers before it snaps. The tension builds in waves, with Maynard James Keenan delivering a restrained, almost detached vocal that makes the eventual swell hit even harder. Live, it felt surgical. Every note placed with intent, every pause stretching just long enough to keep the crowd on edge.

“A Public Stoning,” replaced “Grand Canyon” as the traditional closer. The track leans into Puscifer’s darker DNA, blending pulsating rhythms with a haunting atmosphere that feels almost ritualistic. Carina Round adds a chilling layer to the performance, her vocals weaving through the chaos and elevating the song into something both hypnotic and deeply eerie.

The Normal Isn’t Tour feels like Puscifer shedding skin in real time. It’s darker, more focused, and more confrontational than anything they’ve done in years and that’s exactly why it works.

Normal was never the goal. And now, it’s not even part of the conversation

Keenan added:

“Normal Isn’t reflects this time we are living in. As storytellers and artists, our job is to observe, interpret and report. We take in our environment and share what we see, and what we see around us does not appear normal. Not by a long shot.”
