Rise Against co-headlined a show at Toyota Center in Houston, Tx on March 20th, 2025 with support from Underoath on The Rise of the Roach Tour!
Rise Against is an American punk rock band originating from Chicago, Illinois and was formed in 1999. Their current lineup consists of lead vocalist/rhythm guitarist Tim Mcllrath, lead guitarist/backing vocalist Zach Blair, bassist/backing vocalist Joe Principe, and drummer/percussionist Brandon Barnes.
The punk rock icons began their set with their long time hit “Re-Education (Through Labor)” to set the pace for the rest of their set. Following along with other fan favorites such as “The Violence“, “Give It All“, and “Prayer of the Refugee” to keep the fans on their feet.
As the set list started to near an end, they slowed things down a bit with an acoustic performance of “Swing Life Away.” The whole arena was illuminated by the joyous fans’ cell phone lights as they sang along.
The last two songs are personal favorites of mine. “Satellite,” packs so much meaning into it’s lyrics. This particular verse alone holds so much wisdom and truth.
You can’t fill your cup until you empty all it has
You can’t understand what lays ahead if you don’t understand the past
You’ll never learn to fly until you’re standing at the cliff
You can’t truly love until you’ve given up on it
Last, but not least “Savior.” Every teen who’s now an adult know’s this song word for word. A true radio rock anthem. A song of generations. These words were sang with so much meaning and emotion! There would be no other song that could conclude this set properly.
Rise Against are the voice of the youth and the hopeful! Even if the youth aren’t exactly the youth anymore. Their anthems will forever be timeless. Hearing these tracks always takes me back to middle school. The angsty young teen truly shined through me as I photographed one of my favorite bands growing up. I can’t express enough how much their music had helped shape me to be the person I am today. I’m truly honored to have been invited by the band to be their guest and for them to post my photographs. I couldn’t be more proud of the art we created together!
