The Story So Far headlined at Bayou Music Center in Houston, Tx on December 6th, 2024 with support from Superheaven and Koyo on their I Want To Disappear Tour!
The Story So Far is an American pop-punk band originating from Walnut Creek, California and was formed in 2007. Their current lineup consists of lead vocalist Parker Cannon, lead guitarist/backing vocalist/keyboardist Kevin Geyer, bassist/backing vocalist Nick Bruzzese, rhythm guitarist Will Levy, and drummer Ross Traver.
The Story So Far’s fifth studio album, I Want To Disappear came out on June 21 via Pure Noise Records. Hailed by Rolling Stone as “one of their most visceral pieces of work,” this record contains everything that’s brought the band international acclaim and success since their inception. It has punch, catchy guitar riffs, and urgent drum fills that define their signature sound. Produced by Jon Markson (Drug Church, Koyo), the album features hit tracks “Big Blind,” “Letterman,” and “All This Time.” Their latest album comes nearly six years after the band’s highly acclaimed album Proper Dose, which debuted at #19 on the Billboard 200 chart.
Cannon speaking about his father and how grief inspired the latest album:
“Grief was incredibly fresh for me in terms of writing. I blocked a lot of it out. I’ve done [that] with a lot of feelings in my life to compartmentalize and keep going. He was music to me. When he left, it was really difficult for me to push forward and do it again.”
Kicking off their set, the pop-punk icons opened with their lead single “Big Blind” off their latest album “I Want To Disappear” in celebration of it’s release. This ignited the audience’s energy and was a great way to start their set. They followed with “The Glass” from their 2013 sophomore album “What You Don’t See“.
This was only the start of their hefty twenty one song setlist spanning through all of their studio albums, nine songs being from their most recent record. Whether they performed relentless tracks like ‘Things I Can’t Change’ or soothing ballads like “White Shores“, the crowd loved every minute of it. Frontman Parker Cannon commanded the stage with his raw and emotional vocals, keeping the fans crowd surfing and singing along to every word.
Their performance climaxed during fan favorites “Roam” and “Nerve”, before the band concluded their set with “Quicksand” from their first studio album “Under Soil and Dirt“. The energy was palpable as Parker boasted their angsty chorus “I’m trying hard, real hard, everyday not to lose my temper”. It was very reminiscent to the good ‘ol Warped Tour days growing up.
The Story So Far delivered a performance that was not only nostalgic, but still innovative. Proving they’re still at the forefront of the pop-punk scene and leading the way for years to come. Their performance was truly a treat and I can’t wait to witness another one.
