Zheani headlined at White Oak Music Hall in Houston, Tx on October 8th, 2024 with support from Buttress, Zand, & Pax on The Maenad North American Tour

Zheani Sparkes is an Australian rapper, visual artist, model, and actress born April 26th, 1993 in Queensland, Australia. From a very young age she had an interest in cinematography and creative arts, such as music. Later on, she pursued the “Brisbane scene” and now works as a rapper and visual artist.

The Australian native brought her unique blend of industrial trap to the bayou city, mixing elements of hyperpop and heavy bass, paired with primal screams and angelic melodies, all wrapped up in a dark aesthetic that feels ancient yet familiar. Zheani is both the ancient past and the distant future, beyond genre and beyond labels.

The artist opened her set with “Carry On” a hard hitting bass track from her 2019 release, “Santanic Prostitute“. The trap metal artist was accompanied by two background dancers which really brought the performance to life, bringing a whole new meaning to the phrase performance art. Zheani also showcased her newest single “Sex Never Dies“, a hypnotizing anthem which she also recently dropped a music video for.

When asked what draws people to her shows, Zheani had this to say:

“I think I tell a very common story that is seldom honestly told. I’m thankful and feel indebted to everyone that shows out, and for this reason, I give them all the energy that they deserve. Even my agents were surprised by how many tickets I sell compared to my monthly listeners. That’s because every one of them is a real person and has discovered and connected with me organically.”

The Australian based artist has a message of empowerment in her music that resonates deeply with her fans. I couldn’t help but notice how many young women in the crowd were completely immersed in the experience.

When asked about her message of overcoming trauma, she had this to say:

“I’ve been making music for almost a decade now. My creative journey was instigated and fueled by trauma. Not quitting is the biggest and simplest key to success. I see more women filling the darker niches, and it’s beautiful. The wet, deep and dark is our domain, and we shouldn’t be afraid of it.”
