Shinedown headlined a show at The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Pavilion in The Woodlands, Tx on October 8th, 2023 with support from Papa Roach and Spiritbox on The Revolutions Live Tour! Shinedown is touring in support of their chart-topping seventh studio album, Planet Zero.
Ahead of the tour’s launch, Shinedown front man Brent Smith, Papa Roach front man Jacoby Shaddix and Spiritbox members Courtney LaPlante (vocals) and Mike Stringer (guitar) gathered for an in-depth roundtable conversation, where they spoke candidly about their personal connections and how they teamed up for the tour, their musical journeys, creating setlists, healthy band competition, being a woman in music, and so much more.
Shinedown is an American rock band originating from Jacksonville, Florida and was formed in 2001. Their current lineup consists of vocalist Brent Smith, guitarist/backing vocalist Zach Myers, bassist/backing vocalist Eric Bass, and drummer Barry Kerch.
They played classic hits such as “45“, “Sound of Madness”, and “Second Chance”. They also played several tracks off their latest album “Planet Zero“. During “A Symptom of Being Human“, Brent preceded with an important message about mental health.
It wouldn’t be a Shinedown show without a few covers! Eric and Zach took over lead vocals to cover “The Middle” by Jimmy Eat World. Brent came back out to do their iconic cover of “Simple Man” by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
While performing “Cut the Cord”, they fired off several fireworks and pyro in the midst of screaming “Don’t be a casualty cut the cord” to conclude their set!
Brent Smith said:
“If there has ever been a city that’s been with us from the beginning, from day one. That’s always made us feel like we’re family. It is without a doubt Houston, Texas!”
Brent Smith stated:
“The way that we see things, especially when you’re talking about rock n’ roll. We don’t look at it as a genre of music. It’s more than that. It’s a way of life. Just take a look around in your community right now. You see in this community anyone, from anywhere, at any time is welcome all the time. It doesn’t matter if you’re a man or a woman, whether you’re younger or older, the color of your skin, that’s irrelevant. Your religion, that’s totally up to you that’s no one else’s business. That’s what makes you an individual. That’s what makes you who you are. Tonight you may not be aware of something. We all share a bond. We’re connected to one another. It’s called the human condition. Ladies and Gentleman your lifetime you are allowed to have as many human moments as you see fit and you see necessary. We’re all a work in progress. Something for all of you tonight to understand about us is we are a band that’s been talking about mental health for the better part of two decades. Before it was in the headlines, before media spoke about it. Thankfully now there is a discussion. I will tell you this, this life is a gift above all. In your lifetime you will have ups and you will have downs. That’s why they call it a journey. I say this to all of you here tonight, don’t lose your love for one another. Don’t lose your empathy for each other. Please don’t lose your respect for one another.”

Papa Roach is an American rock band originating from Vacaville, California and was formed in 1993. Their current lineup consists of vocalist Jacoby Shaddix, guitarist/backing vocalist Jerry Horton, bassist/backing vocalist Toby Esperance, and drummer Tony Palermo.
The legendary rock radio band played their newest hit single “Kill the Noise” second on their set! They also played classic hits such as “…To Be Loved“, “Forever”, “Scars“, and “Last Resort”.
Jacoby Shaddix broadcasts a message about suicide prevention:
“It is currently the 11th leading cause of death in the United States. The good news is suicide can be prevented, and help is available. Together, we can talk away the dark. This issue doesn’t effect one of us or few of us. It effects all of us. If you have lost someone. or know someone who’s lost someone, or know someone who struggles, even if you yourself have struggled. The first step to finding a solution is to talk about it and ask questions. Life is so meaningful, but when you’re struggling mentally it doesn’t always feel that way. Depression, anxiety, addiction, trauma, and stress can make you feel alone but you are not alone. It’s important to know we are not our thoughts. Suicide research shows that when you’re in a state of crisis and feeling the effects of life, your critical thinking is effected. Your mind doesn’t have the access to normal coping mechanisms. I’ve fought my fair share of battles in my own mind. You learn the truth in the saying ‘this to shall pass’. Our band has talked about mental health since the beginning of our career. It’s been the topic of countless songs, and being able to travel the world and see all of you there’s no greater feeling than when someone says ‘your music saved my life’. This cause is extremely important to us so we wanted to give back. Just by being here tonight you’re all part of this with us. We’ll be making a donation to the American Foundation of Suicide Prevention in the name of tonight’s show. So they can continue their mission of saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by this issue. The Talk Away the Dark Campaign teaches the the warning signs for suicide and how to have a conversation that can save a life. Whether it’s someone else’s or your own. If you got a light take it out and hold it up high for this next song. For anyone that’s in the dark I want you to always know you are not alone we will always leave a light on for you!”
